Name: | DT Maize Vol. 4 No. 2 June 2015 |
Description: | The second edition of DT Maize Bulletin for June 2015 features Zambia, which has the highest average maize yield, compared to other countries with high yields like Malawi, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Angola. Like many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, drought is the key constraint to Zambia’s maize production with 83 percent of smallholder households reporting to have encountered drought 1-3 years over the previous 10 years. 22 drought tolerant varieties have been released in Zambia between 2007 and 2014, to help smallholders mitigate the effects of drought through high yields and improved grains. |
